About ExactAge
ExactAge publishes free date and age calculators, together with plain-English guides explaining the conventions behind them. Everything on the site is free to use, needs no account, and runs entirely in your own browser.
Why this site exists
Date arithmetic is deceptively hard. Two calculators can give different answers for the same birth date and both be defensible, because "one month" genuinely has more than one reasonable meaning. Most tools give you a number without telling you which convention produced it, which leaves you unable to tell a difference of opinion from a bug.
We built ExactAge to do the opposite: state the convention, show the edge cases, and explain when a different figure would serve you better. The calculators are the fast path; the guides are there when the number needs to be defended.
How our calculators are built
- Everything runs in your browser. Your date of birth is never transmitted to us or to anyone else. There is no server-side calculation, no database and no account.
- Real calendar days are counted. We never approximate a year as 365 or 365.25 days. Every leap day in a span is counted individually, including the century exceptions.
- Dates are anchored at midday. This makes results immune to daylight saving shifts, which are a well-known cause of off-by-one-day errors in date tools.
- Month-end behaviour is documented. We use day clamping and we say so, with a worked table on the age calculator page showing exactly how each edge case resolves.
- The arithmetic is tested. The core date functions are covered by a suite of cases built around leap years, century years, month-end transitions and 29 February birthdays, and cross-checked against an independent implementation.
Editorial standards
Our guides are researched and written by the ExactAge editorial team. Where a rule varies by jurisdiction we say so rather than presenting one country's position as universal. Where something is a convention rather than a fact, we name it as a convention. Where a topic carries legal or medical weight, we point you to the source that actually governs it instead of substituting for professional advice.
If you find something on this site that is wrong, we want to know. Corrections are the fastest way to make a reference site better, and we credit them where you would like us to.
How the site is funded
ExactAge is free and supported by advertising. Advertising pays the hosting bill and nothing more: it does not influence what we write, and we do not accept payment for coverage, links or placement in our guides. Full details of the advertising technology we use are in our privacy policy.
Who runs ExactAge
ExactAge is an independent site owned and operated by Sachin Bhosle, based in India. It is not affiliated with any other calculator site, and it has no parent company, investors or commercial partners.
That independence is why the editorial policy in our editorial standards is short and easy to keep: there is nobody to please except the people using the calculators.
